The Mission Council Consultation -- Page 3

Part of the Consultation was given over to presentations by other organizations involved in projects relevant to the church's mission priorities -- HIV/AIDS, poverty, and violence -- and among the presenters were our friends from Sinikithemba HIV/AIDS Christian Care Centre at McCord Hospital in Durban.  Above, in a moment of closing prayer for the health of the patients and the work of the Centre, are David Agates, the hospital's General Secretary; Mrs. Mhlongo, the director of the Centre; and two of the patients being helped by the Centre.

Above left, our friend Scott Couper, a Global Ministries missionary serving as the pastor of a Zulu membership church at Groutville, north of Durban, leads devotions on the morning of the last day of the Consultation.  Above right, Phindy, a youth delegate from the Central Region of SA.

OUR WORK FOR 2001 BEGINS:
The KZN Region's Music Workshop

The week after the Consultation, we had the opportunity to attend a workshop sponsored by KZN's Christian Education Committee -- functionally, the (provisional) Mission Council for the region, and the folks with whom we'll be working most closely on these matters.  They held a workshop at the Umbilo Congregational Church [photo below left], in the southern part of the city, on the theme "Music in Worship,"  with a view towards strengthening the role of and capacity for all forms of music in the local congregations,  as well as exploring ways to introduce the worship music of the different cultural groups within the denomination to each other.  Dr. Shabalala, the main speaker, is in the photograph immediately below, right, with delegates in the other photos.
